Four residents and one firefighter were taken to Jefferson Health at Lansdale Hospital after being exposed to an odor, the Fire Department of Montgomery Township detailed in a release.
The incident occurred in the townhomes located near the 300 block of Amy Court, according to county dispatch.
The odor came from an exterior power washing and cleaning that had happened in homes in the area earlier in the day, the fire department explained.
Ammonia or bleach may have been used in the cleaning process, according to county dispatch.
The fire department contacted the development's homeowner's association and the company that did the power washing.
Residents were able to return to their homes once the investigation was cleared, county dispatch records state.

North Penn Volunteer Fire Company, Colmar Volunteer Fire Company, and Montgomery County Department of Public Safety Hazmat Officers assisted with the investigation, according to the release.
